Tyne Cot Cemetery never ceases to take the breath away. It has a terrible beauty that encourages questions and reflection in equal measure.

Ypres Part Two

Ypres — Sanctuary Wood

After lunch, we headed to Sanctuary Wood for the much anticipated visit to the last ‘authentic’ British trenches on the Salient. Much sloshing through mud ensued accompanied by quite a few shrieks as Chris the ‘trench goblin’ surprised those who braved the tunnels. I did overhear at least one pupil say it was better than Disneyland… but I think that may have been for my benefit!

Ypres Part One

Our day in the Ypres Salient really was special… The group were magnificent and a credit to themselves in every way. We arrived about 10 in the morning and visited the Menin Gate, Leonidas Chocolate Shop and the In Flanders Fields Museum before lunch.

On The Road Again

The trip has flown past and I feel guilty at not getting much posted. Unfortunately, the wifi access at the Chateau was intermittent at best (and we’re being kind when we say that!)

So a couple of updates for you…

Breakfast was in the dining/disco/classroom…

Perth to the Château

We set off more or less on time and the trip down to the Tunnel port was remarkably straight-forward.

Adam found a new friend…

The boys got comfortable…

And there was a bit of an unfortunate pile up…

We had time for a quick nap…

Before boarding the train to speed under the channel…

2 More Sleeps!

We’re almost set for departure. Officially it’s 2 more sleeps… but I have this sneaking suspicion that there may be a few of our party who have difficulty in dropping off on Thursday night!

We have taken delivery of the wreath for next Tuesday’s Ceremony at the Menin Gate. Mr Smith is seen handing it over to two of our party.
