Ypres Part Two

Ypres — Sanctuary Wood

After lunch, we headed to Sanctuary Wood for the much anticipated visit to the last ‘authentic’ British trenches on the Salient. Much sloshing through mud ensued accompanied by quite a few shrieks as Chris the ‘trench goblin’ surprised those who braved the tunnels. I did overhear at least one pupil say it was better than Disneyland… but I think that may have been for my benefit!

Ypres Part One

Our day in the Ypres Salient really was special… The group were magnificent and a credit to themselves in every way. We arrived about 10 in the morning and visited the Menin Gate, Leonidas Chocolate Shop and the In Flanders Fields Museum before lunch.

On The Road Again

The trip has flown past and I feel guilty at not getting much posted. Unfortunately, the wifi access at the Chateau was intermittent at best (and we’re being kind when we say that!)
